Spring 2009 Directory
Welcome to the 2009-10 ABS Australia Beef Sire Directory. The Directory now comes out in September and will be followed by the Autumn Update.
In this year’s Australian Beef Sire Directory we are delighted to introduce many new and exciting bulls.
The Angus section includes four new Australian bulls, three of which are proven. Three new Red Angus bulls have also been added. There are six bulls from the USA and one Canadian bull. We have included one new bull from New Zealand.
Charolais has been popular resulting in the three favourites being sold out so you are now able to select from three new bulls.
ROMN Justice, a favourite of the Limousin breed, is also sold out. Tow Truck has taken his spot and the great Australian bull Mandayen Vision joins this group.
Two new purebred bulls and two Sim/Angus join the Simmental group.
A Gelbvieh outcross black and polled bull has been added.
We are delighted to be able to add fine examples of the Devon breed to this directory, both being polled bulls.
Brangus breeders can now choose from three new bulls. ABS is taking a major position in the supply of semen to this up and coming breed.
ABS strives to promote Australian genetics to the world market. In 2009 Devon, Black Limousin [Vision] and Poll Hereford semen has been introduced to the UK market following on from the success of Red Angus and Angus bulls. Semen from Devon, Limousin and four Angus bulls has been exported to New Zealand and the USA has taken on board the great young Angus sire Infinity. Semen from four new Braford bulls has been sent to several South American countries.
Never has an Australian artificial breeding company enjoyed as much success in promoting and supplying beef genetics to the world!
While the 2008-09 year saw many challenges, the ABS Australia Beef department continued to grow. Many of these challenges will be faced again this year but with the use of high quality and proven genetics we look forward to further growth.
Information, including genetic defect listings and structural assessments, is updated regularly on the ABS Australia website. You may also obtain current information for ABS Australian sires on the Breed Society web pages. Please take the opportunity to attend our Field Days and Information Days.
2009 Tour
In July I was fortunate to be able to travel to the UK to inspect Genus ABS beef bulls at Genus ABS Semen Collection Centre near Ruthin in Wales. I visited farms and beef production systems in Wales and Scotland. I was able to attend the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh. During this time I had the opportunity to promote Australian sires and view the progeny of Radar and Admiral, Australian Angus bulls.
I then headed off to the ABS Global Head Office in Deforest, Wisconsin to meet with staff and view the beef bulls in stud. I passed through three states visiting selected herds on my way to ORIgen in Montana where I viewed the A.I. sires in stud. While in Montana I joined a tour for two days with my counterparts from ABS Brazil and Argentina and spent valuable time exchanging ideas.
A full day was spent with the American Simmental Association where I met with staff and visited farms. This breed association continues to lead multi-breed sire evaluations.
Calgary, Alberta Canada was the final stop to attend the World Angus Forum. This was a magnificent event and the Canadians are to be congratulated for their hospitality, great displays and fine cattle. World Cattle Forums provide a tremendous opportunity for networking, viewing cattle, meeting breeders and exchanging ideas.
Cheers,
