ABS's exclusive relationship with the Angus Sire Alliance and Circle A Angus Ranch ensures that our bulls have a comprehensive progeny test in a real world commercial environment and allows us to explore additional profit related traits for the beef industry.

 

Profitability Value - A Beef Industry 1st

The Angus Sire Alliance pioneered the usage of indexes in the beef industry in 1997.  The Angus Sire Alliance profitability index is similar to the current $B Value calculated by the American Angus Association with four key advantages.

• All data is collected through a designed progeny test in real world commercial environments orchestrated by a third-party geneticist
• The index includes actual measured progeny intake and efficiency differences rather than estimated values which allows for the identification of true outliers that best combine efficiency and performance
• It also includes the effects of calving ease and pre-weaning growth
• Profitability Values are published only on proven bulls.  Profitability Values are earned only through proven progeny performance and are not generated solely on pedigree estimates and individual performance.

Updated Indexes

The new Sire Alliance Indexes for both Total Profitability and Feed Efficiency have been updated to better reflect today's economic conditions including both higher feed and cattle prices.

While the previous index used a historic 10 year window of economic data, the 2008 index uses a shorter and more current window to better reflect today's economic reality.  The current index uses a 5-year time frame including current 2008 data, a three year historic window and projections for 2009 using futures markets.
