Progeny feed efficiency data is a unique component within the Sire Alliance profitability index.  While increasing feed costs have generated significant new interest throughout the industry and many new projects to evaluate feed efficiency, the Angus Sire Alliance is already backed by over 10 years of individual intake data.

 

The sire differences are expressed as an economic index that accounts for the relative value of both increased gain and reduced feed costs.

•  Individual intake and gain data is measured on progeny of each bull tested allowing for the calculation of sire EPDs for average daily gain and intake
• Their genetic contributions are then valued using an economic index that accounts for the relative value of additional gain and reduced feed costs
• Utilizing recent economic factors, the index currently shows nearly a $50 per progeny value spread with bulls ranging from +$26.38 to -$20.19
