ABS Global's Jersey Sales Pass Million Unit Mark for Second Consecutive Year

ABS® Global, the world leader in bovine genetics, reproduction services, and artificial insemination technologies, has concluded their second consecutive year in which more than one million Jersey units were sold. This major milestone is reflective of the Jersey breed’s rising popularity.

Based on national DHI records, the American Jersey Cattle Association estimates Jerseys account for over 7% of the current U.S. dairy herd, which is nearly double their presence from 2000. Jerseys are gaining in popularity compared to other breeds because they are smaller and often more feed efficient, and have higher levels of fat and protein in their milk. Customers also prize Jerseys because of their genetic capabilities for calving ease, high fertility, and suitability for crossbreeding programs.

“This is a great time for Jerseys, especially at ABS,” said Mitch Amundson, Global Dairy Brand Manager. “We have consistently offered a balanced lineup of Jerseys, both proven and young genomic sires. As we see the market value of butter fat increase, Jerseys can add more profitability to your herd. This is complemented by the fact that we’re developing more economic, proprietary tools, like Jersey TransitionRight™.”

Some of ABS Global’s Jersey stars include:

  • 29JE3762 Volcano and 29JE3768 Daybreak are both top 5 proven sires for JPI, Net Merit, and Cheese Merit
  • 29JE3866 Harris is ABS’ top ranking genomic sire, one of its most fertile sires, and comes from the same cow family as 29JE3510 HEADLINE and 29JE3114 HALLMARK
  • 29JE3943 PABLO ties HARRIS for GJPI and is an elite Cheese Merit sire

“Not only does ABS bring some of the top proven sires to market, we also have high-performing genomic genetics for our customers to choose from,” said Aaron Horst, ABS Jersey Sire Analyst. “These bulls will continue to provide our customers the Jersey genetics they seek to drive farm profitability.”
