{"id":11891,"date":"2024-08-19T02:53:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T02:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/?p=11891"},"modified":"2025-11-13T04:52:46","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T04:52:46","slug":"abs-australia-august-abv-media-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/abs-australia-august-abv-media-release\/","title":{"rendered":"ABS Australia August ABV Media Release"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Removing the poor genes to deliver quality and certainty for Australian farmers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABS Australia has four of the top 10 proven Holstein bulls in the latest Australian Breeding Value (ABV) release.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In an industry-first, ABS Australia has discontinued all bulls identified with Muscle Weakness or JH1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Farmer favourite Jersey CSCBRADY delivers consistency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-helping-you-profit-from-genetic-progress\">Helping you profit from Genetic Progress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ANY Holstein bulls with the recognised genetic condition called Muscle Weakness and Jerseys with the JH1 haplotype &#8211; that effects fertility &#8211; have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/articles\/good-bye-muscle-weakness-syndrome-and-jh1\/\">removed from the market by ABS Australia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this bold, and industry-leading move, hasn\u2019t affected the quality bull offering for Australian farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ABS bulls claimed four of the top 10 Holstein proven rankings in the latest Australian Breeding Values (ABV) release &#8211; with many household names delivering in the vat for farmers across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ABS Australia Business Operations Manager Bruce Ronalds said dairy farmers could purchase ABS bulls with confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMuscle Weakness Syndrome (MW) is a newly discovered genetic condition in Holsteins which is characterised by otherwise healthy animals which aren\u2019t able to stand, while the JH1 haplotype has been linked to infertility in Jerseys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe recent discovery of these genetic conditions and haplotypes are just another thing the industry can thank genomics for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHere at ABS Australia, we checked our marketed bulls and found 12 with the MW condition and two with the JH1 haplotype. They have been discontinued from our offering. Unfortunately one of these bulls was Denovo 14744 GINETTA which would have been number seven on the ABV Holstein proven list. Despite his other quality traits, we don\u2019t want farmers to risk any progeny health issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holstein Winstar EQUITY-P-ET has also been removed from the market, however his highly popular son Denovo 19187 <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO21036\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">EMPORIA P<\/a> is clear of the MW gene and remains in ABS Australia\u2019s offering as a bull that excels in Daughter fertility at 120.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gippsland-based semen reseller Leading Edge Genetics owner Brad Aitken said full disclosure of recessive carrying genes was important for the dairy industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI take my hat-off to ABS for making people aware of Muscle Weakness and JH1,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is important farmers are aware of the genetic condition and haplotype, because in different ways, they both affect farm profitability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the recent ABV release, farmer-favourite and long-time breed leader ABS <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18698\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">JERONIMO P<\/a> continues his domination of the Australian market at 461 Balanced Performance Index (BPI) and number eight, while big milk bull <a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO18838\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">DG CHARLEY<\/a> continues his run at the pointy-end of the ranks with 480 BPI and ranked fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to an influx of daughters, Kings-Ransom S DREAMBIG and Hoogerhorst dg oh RUBELS-RED are Australia\u2019s equal highest type bulls and have also lifted their production status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DREAMBIG is now at number six proven Holstein with 330 milking daughters, 39kg of Protein and 39 kg of Fat and a Farmer Likability of 105.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor farmers wanting profit, with outstanding type, DREAMBIG is for them,\u201d Bruce said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe is leaving daughters with chest and body and widens the pins.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29HO17459\/D\/AUS\/HOLSTEIN\/EN\/USA\/AUS\">RUBELS-RED<\/a>, now at number seven at 463 BPI, is 111 for Type and 105 for Udders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"731\" width=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11919\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg 2100w, https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg?resize=300,214 300w, https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg?resize=768,549 768w, https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg?resize=1024,731 1024w, https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg?resize=1536,1097 1536w, https:\/\/www.absglobal.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/11\/RS13477_Rubels-Red_Bomaz_rear_headlock_sidetails-with-TAILS-hpr.jpg?resize=2048,1463 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Four milking 2YO RUBELS daughters at Bomaz Farms<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s no surprise black and white farmers are using him in their breeding program,&#8221; this is a testament to their balance and pedigree depth, and we know farmers are enjoying milking their daughters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denovo 4798 ESTATE-PP is still the highest proven homozygous (Double P) Holstein bull in Australia at 536 BPI and he\u2019s expected to remain popular with farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bruce said demand for PP bulls continues to increase and ABS is proud of the bulls it can offer the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-consistent-jerseys-deliver-for-all\"><strong>Consistent Jerseys deliver for all<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The highly sought-after and continually impressive genomic bull Kaarmona Jeronimo Brady, CSCBRADY has delivered a consistent performance in this ABV release with 423 BPI and is equal number one for Type and four on ASI Production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/absbullsearch.absglobal.com\/details\/bull\/29JE4522\/D\/AUS\/JE\/EN\/USA\/AUS?source=search\">CSCBRADY<\/a> has been our most popular Jersey during the past four months with farmers wanting to take advantage of a balanced bull offered by Kaarmona, the only stud in Australian history with a Master Breeder award from two different breeds,\u201d Bruce said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe highest ranked ABS Jersey genomic bull, farmers can purchase CSCBRADY with confidence and know he will deliver.
