\nreproduction services, and artificial insemination technologies, is saddened to
\nannounce the passing of the globally iconic sire, 29HO12209 Picston SHOTTLE. The
\nrecently retired bull leaves behind an outstanding legacy producing 1,174,948
\nunits.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe peaceful passing of SHOTTLE means we
\nhave lost one of our industry\u2019s most influential animals,\u201d said Saskia Korink,
\nABS Global Chief Operating Officer. \u201cHe has made a major impact on dairy
\nfarming around the globe over the last 15 years and has become one of the
\ngreatest \u2018customer satisfaction\u2019 bulls of all time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

SHOTTLE was born at
\nSpot Acre Grange near Stafford, England\u2014the home of the Pickford family and Picston
\nHolsteins. He was the son of dam Condon Aero Sharon EX-91 and sire Carole
\nPrelude Mtoto.<\/span><\/p>\n

For seven straight
\nsire summary releases (January 2008 through January 2010) SHOTTLE sat at the
\npeak of the Top 100 TPI\u00ae list.\u00a0 <\/span>After
\nthose seven straight runs, he remained a top 15 sire for the next five sire
\nsummaries. In December 2011, SHOTTLE became the 11th<\/sup> ABS sire to
\nachieve \u2018millionaire\u2019 status\u2014with one million units of semen sold. When he
\nturned 12 he still out-performed bulls half his age\u2014remaining in the top 25 of
\nthe Top 100 TPI list. Even at the age of 15 and post-retirement, he continued
\nto be a tremendous improver of health traits and was over 1.20 for PTAT. He
\ncontinues to impact the Holstein USA Top 100 TPI list, with two sons and 28
\nmaternal grandsons listed.<\/span><\/p>\n

SHOTTLE leaves a long
\nlist of offspring, including more than 100,000 daughters in 20,000 herds in 22
\ncountries. Conservatively, those 100,000 SHOTTLE daughters have produced more
\nthan five billion pounds (more than two billion litres) of milk to help nourish
\nthe world. <\/span><\/p>\n

ABS remains the
\npremier source for SHOTTLE influenced genetics\u2014marketing conventional and sexed
\nsemen from 17 direct sons and 27 maternal grandsons. Even after his passing, with
\n19 maternal grandsons awaiting proof information, SHOTTLE will continue to
\ninfluence the industry for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only was SHOTTLE
\npopular in the dairy and artificial insemination industries, but he received
\nenormous amounts of press coverage from all over the world early on in his
\ncareer. In addition to dairy trade publications, stories about SHOTTLE appeared
\nin numerous newspapers and magazines, including The Times <\/i>of London and Daily
\nMail<\/i>. Perhaps the most notable was his feature in Playboy<\/i> magazine\u2014a feat no other bull at ABS Global has accomplished.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his final months, while enjoying
\nretirement, SHOTTLE received superstar treatment\u2014including the enjoyment of a
\npen twice the size of his herd mates where he basked under heat lamps and got
\nregular exercise from the dedicated team of stockmen at the Ruthin stud in the
\nUnited Kingdom. All of us at ABS will miss SHOTTLE greatly, but look forward to
\nwhat his genetics and offspring continue to do for the dairy industry around
\nthe world.<\/span><\/p>\n
