Beef Testing Coordinator

Position Location:

Montezuma, Kansas

Overall Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for managing logistics and data for NuEra Connect, beef progeny test program, beef product validation trials and research trials in the US and supporting data collection efforts for the Genetic Nucleus program.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Manage logistics of data collection for the ABS NuEra Connect program, ABS Beef InFocus (beef x dairy) program, beef progeny testing, product validation trials, and research trials in the US, including:
    • Build strong relationships with members of beef industry
    • Coordinate data collection throughout the beef supply chain (birth to harvest)
    • Work with all partner herds to ensure units are distributed and placed in a timely manner, and follow designated protocols
    • Identify and capitalize on avenues to build and improve data collection pipelines
    • Organize, aggregate and pre-process data to prepare for database loading 
    • Ensure animal and sire identification data completeness
    • Work directly with producers, feedlot, packers, and other stakeholders to communicate data collection needs, including type of data, and data format.  
  • Coordinate tissue sampling for genotyping and manage submission process to genotyping provider
  • Support data collection efforts for the Genetic Nucleus program cooperator network and provide onsite oversight of testing protocols.
  • Work within custom genetic programs to ensure timely data collection that meets quality standards, participating in data collection as needed. 
  • Coordinate tissue sampling for genomic testing and manage submission process for ABS Beef Product Development programs.

Required Travel:

  • Extensive travel required (at least 50%).
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field with 3+ years of experience in the beef industry
  • 1+ years large animal handling experience
  • Experience collecting and managing data
  • Good understanding of all segments of the US beef industry, including the type and scope of data generated in each
  • Proven ability to work on a team as well as independently to achieve objectives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficient in computer programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with animal genetic data
