Regional business manager of the Midlands, UK
I’m Stephanie Doherty and I’m Regional business manager of the Midlands, UK. I started with Genus ABS straight after graduating with a Business Management degree from the University of Leeds in 2011.
I started off as a business development manager for genetics for the UK and Ireland. The role involved managing the genetic portfolio of bulls and learning about indexes such as EBI. After this, I moved into the EMEA dairy brand manager role and helped to launch Sexcel in EMEA. One special memory was when I was in South Africa. I had to drive through a safari park on my way to a farm and saw zebras, elephants and giraffes! I’ve really enjoyed travelling to different countries and learning about their genetic needs.

My next calling was as the European breading program manager. As part of this role, I helped to launch the De Novo program in Europe. Some of the most popular bulls I released during this time were Invictus, Rubels red and Raptor. One of my highlights from this role was when I went to Germany and successfully bought a heifer and a bull (using a mix of German and English), which were both over 3000 TPI!
My most recent challenge has seen me become the regional business manager of Midlands. This role has involved less international travelling but has involved new and exciting challenges. In particular, I now work with and manage a larger team, so that’s been a change of pace. There’s no average day, One day you could be on farm prospecting or engaging customers about our products and another day you could be planning a campaign. We all work together as a team and that’s something I’m really enjoying about my latest role.
