Livestock Person – Ruthin, North Wales

Do you enjoy a hands-on job working with animals? Genus ABS‘ Livestock teams based in Ruthin, North Wales are growing. We have the following available opportunities:

  • Bull handling and care
  • Youngstock and calf rearing

You will work as a team to ensure consistency in care for high-value animals to support genetics production and future generations to positive impact Genus ABS customer herds around the globe.

The facilities utilise sustainable and high-tech equipment to provide the best comfort and conditions to the animals.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Daily care of our animals
  • Routine health testing to ensure the well-being of our animals
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene, upkeep and maintenance of animal housing and equipment
  • Follow our health and safety (H&S) protocols to ensure a safe working environment
  • Advocate and maintain biosecurity principles
  • Work closely with a friendly team who are passionate about the well-being of our animals
  • Youngstock and calf rearing only – Follow a synchronisation protocol to prepare recipient heifers for embryo transfers
  • Youngstock and calf rearing only – Collect and process data using different technologies to measure health and welfare results
  • Bulls only – Daily semen collections
  • Bulls only – Clipping, preparing and showing animals for photography and events


  • Full driving licence
  • Available to work Monday to Friday (day shifts) and weekends on a rota basis (Bulls – one in five weekends and Youngstock – one in three weekends)
  • Availability to travel to other production sites on occasion (Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Yorkshire, England)
