The dairy industry looks very different today than it did 20 years ago.\u202fOver the years, the evolution of dairy farming has been driven by technology adoption, automation, more access to data, an increasing herd size, and the use of genomic sires over proven sires.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because of these changes, plus the adoption of the sexed and beef strategy, new tool development, and index formulation updates, we chose to adjust how we create genetics. By moving away from the industry\u2019s \u2018ideal cow,\u2019 we can better support dairy farmers in creating the right animals for their system: healthy, long-lasting and productive cows. This ensures that we remain focused on creating diverse groups of sires that help our customers profit from genetic progress.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our goal is to create a\u202fdiverse portfolio of sires\u202fthat work well in a\u202fvariety of genetic plans; helping reduce our customers’ challenges and helping them to get paid more for their milk.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While it\u2019s easy to become hyper-focused on the industry\u2019s most popular 100 sires, it\u2019s important to recognise that global demand requires diversity. In 2024,\u202f10,000 bulls were required<\/strong>\u202fto produce the\u202f50 million units of semen that were sold.<\/strong>\u202fWhy? Each farm has its own needs and goals, based on their milk contract, geography, weather, environment, and so on. This proves that there\u2019s a need for a variety of sires globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
