Located in South Yorkshire, J&E Dickinson, alongside their Farm Manager, Paul Robson, manage a renowned herd of 180 pedigree Jerseys, known as the Holmfirth Herd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milk from the farm, along with that from other pedigree Jersey herds, is used within Longley Farm dairy products, which can be found in both independent stores and major supermarkets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhancing silage quality<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The farm grows its own forage, including maize and fodder beat. Since 2017, they have relied on Acti-Maize silage additive to enhance their silage quality. After a brief trial with a competitor\u2019s product, they quickly returned to their trusted additive due to its superior performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul commented that using Acti-Maize has led to numerous benefits, including quicker fermentation. Faster fermentation saves dry matter and preserves more quality nutrients for the farm\u2019s herd to benefit from. The farm has also observed less mould in the clamp, resulting in reduced waste and enhanced silage quality. Paul also highlighted that Acti-Maize treated maize silage leads to higher intakes due to better palatability. The use of Acti-Maize increases lactic acid, encouraging the cows to eat more, which in turn improves overall animal performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
