The Latin America Beef Genetic Services Manager will lead the ABS Beef Genetic Services function across Latin America, with accountability for delivering improved beef genetics and clearly demonstrated customer value through the NuEra Genetics™ program and related initiatives.
This role is responsible for developing and managing customized genetic programs, maintaining a robust regional data and product testing pipeline, providing technical genetic leadership and support to commercial teams and customers, and ensuring the continued genetic competitiveness of ABS beef products across diverse Latin American production systems.
The role requires close collaboration with global genetic services, product validation, and regional commercial leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver the Latin America Beef Genetic Services program, ensuring customers across the region recognize and realize the value of genetically improved beef products.
- Develop and implement a structured, consistent genetic services approach aligned with regional commercial strategies and customer needs.
- Maintain deep technical and market knowledge of NuEra Genetics™ and related products, working closely with regional commercial leadership to prioritize new program development.
- Ensure all regional genetic service and program commitments are delivered on time, with high quality, and exceed customer expectations.
- Lead efforts to:
- Develop and manage regional customer, partner, and research data pipelines.
- Develop and deploy selection indexes tailored to regional production systems and market requirements.
- Perform routine index updates and validation.
- Ensure robust product and genetic testing pipelines, including phenotypic and genomic evaluations.
- Work closely with team the to design and execute local and regional trials that demonstrate product performance and genetic superiority.
- Serve as the genetics subject-matter expert for regional commercial teams and provide advanced genetic consultation to key customers and partners.
- Build and manage relationships with academic institutions, research organizations, customers, and supply chain partners across Latin America.
- Represent ABS as a thought leader in beef genetic improvement through industry engagement, technical presentations, and professional collaboration.
- Develop and manage the Latin America Genetic Services budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and strong return on investment.
- Model the highest standards of scientific rigor, business ethics, and personal integrity.
- Travel approximately 20–30%, domestically and internationally, as required.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Animal Science, Genetics, Animal Breeding, or a closely related field.
- Strong background in quantitative genetics, statistical analysis, and genomic evaluation systems in beef cattle.
- Demonstrated experience with selection index theory and index development.
- Extensive post-graduate experience in animal genetic improvement, preferably within commercial or industry-focused breeding programs.
- Experience in at least one segment of the beef production chain (cow-calf, feedlot, packer, or integrated systems) preferred.
- Proven success working effectively across multiple cultures, countries, and business functions.
Language Skills
- Fluent in English required
- Fluent in Portuguese required
- Spanish proficiency strongly preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to clearly communicate complex genetic concepts to diverse audiences, including executives, commercial teams, and producers.
- Strong capability in translating technical data and results into actionable, customer-focused recommendations.
- Experience managing budgets and resources to maximize impact and efficiency.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a bias toward execution in complex environments.
