ABS Global and De-Su Holsteins form joint venture

ABS Global, a
division of Genus plc (GNS:LSE), a global pioneer in animal genetics, today
announces a joint venture with De-Su Holsteins,
North America’s leading independent breeder of high NM$
(net merit dollars) and TPI® (total performance index) Holstein
bulls
. The partnership,
which builds on years of effective collaboration between the organizations,
will develop elite and differentiated Holstein genetics for ABS Global
customers around the world.

The joint venture is named “De Novo Genetics” to signal a
new opportunity for the improvement of global Holstein genetics
. The De Novo Genetics team will develop a joint breeding program
to combine the best genetics from both De-Su and ABS Global, focusing on the
creation of elite and differentiated Holstein genetics to help increase
customer profitability through improved herd productivity, health and
efficiency.

“De Novo
Genetics will harness the best Holstein genetics from both companies to create
the genetic improvement that our customers need and want, faster than ever
before,” said Saskia Korink, ABS Global COO. “We are delighted to be
strengthening our long-standing partnership with De-Su and in turn to be
expanding our customer offering.”

ABS Global and
De-Su – a family operation based in New Albin, Iowa, U.S.A. – have worked
together for a number of years. Both organizations share a breeding philosophy
of building on traits of economic importance to customers.

“I am excited
to blend De-Su’s rich history of genetics with ABS’s genetic portfolio,” said
Darin Meyer, De-Su president. “Their commitment to enhancing dairymen’s profits
through research and genetic selection is going to be a great foundation for a
collaborative focus on science-based genetic development.”
