50 Million Units Milestone Highlights the Global Expansion of Sexed Genetics with Sexcel®

Jun 25

ABS has reached a significant milestone for the global livestock industry: 50 million units of Sexcel® sexed genetics sold worldwide. Since its launch in 2016, Sexcel has helped expand the use of sexed genetics in more than 60 countries, enabling producers to accelerate genetic progress, improve reproductive performance and maximise the economic impact of every calving. The milestone reflects ABS’ position in the market and highlights a profound transformation in how producers plan the genetic future of their herds.

Introduced almost a decade ago, Sexcel® helped make sexed genetics an accessible and reliable tool for a growing number of producers around the world. Today, the technology is used across a wide range of production systems,  helping farms and industry to achieve their genetic, reproductive, and business objectives with greater precision and confidence.

“When we began this journey, we knew we had a differentiated technology, but we never imagined we would reach 50 million units sold in such a short period of time,” said Jesús Martínez, Global Director of IntelliGen Technologies. “This milestone reflects the confidence customers have placed in Sexcel and the dedication of the teams who continue to invest in research, innovation, and operational excellence to deliver consistent results.”

The impact of Sexcel extends far beyond the number of units sold. With performance levels approaching those of conventional semen, ABS sexed genetics have unlocked new possibilities on farm. Initially used primarily in heifers, Sexcel® is now widely incorporated into reproductive programs for both cows and heifers across a variety of production systems, reflecting its continuous evolution and the confidence it has earned among producers, who now have greater control over the future of their herds.

According to Ricardo Campos, ABS Global Commercial Director, the technology’s greatest strength lies in its ability to accelerate genetic progress. “Every unit represents an opportunity to produce the right female at the right time,” said Campos. “For producers, this means faster genetic advancement while increasing business profitability. The milestone of 50 million units sold demonstrates how Sexcel® has helped producers around the world make more strategic and efficient breeding decisions.”

Today, approximately 500 ABS employees are directly involved in the global production of Sexcel®, supporting an operation that continues to evolve through ongoing investments in research and next-generation equipment. “Fifty million units sold is more than a commercial milestone,” said Jim Low, COO of ABS Global. “It reflects the extent to which Sexcel has become an established part of breeding programmes around the world. We are proud of the role ABS has played in helping producers pursue their genetic, reproductive, and business goals while continuing to advance the performance and profitability of their herds.”

With global demand for high-performance genetics continuing to grow, ABS remains committed to advancing genetic and reproductive technologies that help customers achieve measurable results and profit from genetic progress.
