ABS Showcases Science, Innovation, and Applied Research at the World’s Leading Livestock Genetics Congress

Through continuous investment in research and development, the company presented studies and shared technologies that are helping shape the future of cattle genetics

The path toward a more efficient, profitable, and sustainable livestock industry is increasingly driven by science. Reinforcing this commitment, ABS participated last week in the World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production (WCGALP 2026) in Madison, Wisconsin (USA), one of the world’s most prestigious scientific events dedicated to advancing animal genetics.

Throughout the congress, ABS researchers presented scientific studies and contributed to discussions on some of the livestock industry’s most strategic challenges, including feed efficiency, sustainability, genomics, Beef on Dairy strategies, and the use of emerging data sources to further improve genetic evaluations.

Beyond its scientific presentations, ABS also hosted one of the congress’s official technical tours, welcoming researchers and industry professionals from around the world to its facilities. Visitors had the opportunity to experience firsthand the company’s technologies, reproductive programs and innovation ecosystem that support its global genetic improvement efforts.

According to Matthew McClure, PhD, Senior Manager of Dairy Product Development at ABS, events such as WCGALP play a critical role in connecting scientific discovery with real-world application.

ABS was represented by 16 professionals from its Global Product Development, Genetic and Technical Services, and Sustainability teams, together with researchers from Research & Development and colleagues from PIC, another Genus plc company. ABS also supported seven oral and poster presentations at WCGALP, highlighting both internally led research and collaborative studies conducted with university partners. Their strong presence at the congress reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to scientific excellence and the development of next-generation genetic technologies.

The research presented by ABS scientists covered a broad range of strategic topics, including genetic approaches to reducing methane emissions, artificial intelligence applications for meat quality evaluation, advances in genomics, and the use of robotic milking data to improve the accuracy of genetic evaluations.
