Ellen Lai Joins ABS Global as Beef Sustainability Scientist

ABS continues commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the beef production system.

Madison, WI: ABS Global is the largest bovine genetics business in the world and believes that a more sustainable food system starts with better genetics. That is why ABS is excited to announce that Ellen Lai, PhD in Integrative Genetics and Genomics, has joined the team as a Beef Sustainability Scientist.

In this new role, Ellen will drive sustainability efforts across the global beef business. She will identify and demonstrate the environmental impacts of ABS Global genetics, tell the story on how genetics plays a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, work closely with our product development scientists to capture and analyze data from production systems around the world, and be a thought leader in the sustainability space.

“I am thrilled to be part of the team and the ground-breaking work ABS Global is doing related to sustainability,” said Ellen. “I look forward to applying my background in animal science and genetics to help build a sustainable food production system, foster conversations with consumers about where our food comes from, and be an advocate for agriculture.”

Ellen comes to ABS from the U.S.D.A. where she was a Computational Geneticist, working at the Dairy Forage Research Center. She is no stranger to ABS though—completing a Genetic Analytics internship with the ABS dairy team in 2021.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of California Davis, Ellen received her master’s degree in animal biology and PhD in Integrative Genetics and Genomics with an emphasis in Biotechnology—both also from U.C. Davis.
