Each year, a handful of bulls rise to the top of the industry conversation. They generate interest quickly, gain traction in breeding programs, and become widely used across the seedstock space. But as quickly as some bulls gain popularity, they can just as easily fade. The difference between a bull that is briefly “hot” and one that maintains long-term relevance often comes down to more than initial excitement.
In a recent discussion, Kenny Wells sat down with Doug Frank, Beef Product Manager for ABS North America, to talk through a group of sires featured in the 2026 ABS Beef Sire Directory. These are what Kenny describes as “really elite indexing bulls that are getting a lot of interest and a lot of play in the seedstock space.” While they are certainly generating attention, what sets them apart is not just how widely they are being used today, but how consistently they continue to perform over time.
The Difference Between a “Hot Bull” and Staying Power
This group of bulls is not simply generating buzz—they are being put to work. Their use across seedstock programs signals a level of confidence that goes beyond early curiosity or short-term excitement. These are bulls that producers are building around.
Names like JAMESON, TRUE BALANCE, FOUNDATION, and MAJORITY continue to show up across programs because they continue to deliver. That level of adoption reflects more than popularity—it reflects trust in how these bulls perform in real-world settings.

As Doug points out, the industry is no stranger to bulls that capture attention early. “Sometimes that’s kind of the hot new bull,” he said, referencing how quickly momentum can build around new genetics.
JAMESON himself is a great example of a bull that initially fit that description. As a record-selling bull from Basin Angus Ranch, he entered the industry with significant attention and widespread use. But what separates him—and others in this group—is what happened next.
Rather than fading as new bulls entered the market, JAMESON continued to hold his position.
JAMESON’s continued success is driven by what producers are seeing in his cattle. He has not only maintained popularity, but in many ways is experiencing a second wave of demand as more daughters enter production and more sons are marketed.
From a data standpoint, he continues to prove himself. From a practical standpoint, he offers a rare combination of performance, end-product value, and foot quality in one package. Just as importantly, he delivers on both sides—producing sons that are in demand and daughters that are equally valued for their quality and functionality.
That ability to impact both the male and female sides of a program is a strong indicator of long-term relevance, and it is a theme that carries across this entire group.
Building on Proven Genetics
That influence is also extending into the next generation. JEREMIAH, a son of JAMESON, is already gaining traction, bringing additional pounds and performance while maintaining the traits that made his sire so widely used. Early results, including high-selling progeny, are reinforcing his potential and adding another layer to the longevity of this line.
Similarly, TRUE BALANCE has established himself as one of the most complete and consistent bulls in the breed. Despite being tight in supply due to demand, he has continued to sit at the top of the market. His strength lies not just in his data, but in the quality and consistency of his cattle, with both sons and daughters commanding attention in sales.
The Next Step Forward
To meet that demand and build on his success, a group of TRUE BALANCE sons is now stepping forward—each offering a slightly different way to move programs ahead.
NEW BALANCE stands out from an index standpoint, pushing performance metrics even further while maintaining the phenotype and maternal strength behind him. TRUE BALANCE brings added depth of rib and body, enhancing the physical dimension of the cattle without sacrificing data integrity. Meanwhile, TRUE WEST adds another layer of performance and muscle, offering one of the strongest ribeye profiles in the lineup.
Each of these bulls reflects the same core strengths that made TRUE BALANCE successful, while giving producers options depending on their specific goals.
Proven Performance That Holds Up
The same pattern continues with FOUNDATION and MAJORITY, two bulls that were once considered “hot” but have now firmly established themselves through proof and performance.
FOUNDATION has built his reputation through consistency, offering strong calving ease, foot quality, and functional cattle that perform on both the male and female side. His progeny are known for their attractive pattern and slick hair, along with the kind of balance that fits a wide range of environments.
MAJORITY has followed a similar path, with demand outpacing supply at times and progeny continuing to gain traction in the marketplace. Early sale results and growing adoption point to a bull that is not just maintaining relevance, but continuing to build momentum as more data and real-world results come in.
Why These Bulls Keep Showing Up
Across all of these sires, a consistent theme emerges. These are bulls that combine strong data with phenotype, marketability, and real-world function. They are not just designed to look good on paper—they produce cattle that meet the demands of the industry. That balance is what gives them staying power.
In an industry that is constantly chasing what is new, these bulls have done something more difficult: they have remained relevant. They have proven that their value extends beyond initial excitement, offering producers dependable tools that continue to deliver year after year.
And that is ultimately what separates the bulls everyone is using from the ones that are simply talked about.
